Sintering, it is to point to the powder material into a compact body, is a
traditional process. People have long used the technology to produce ceramics,
powder metallurgy, refractory materials, ultra high temperature materials. In
general, after molding powder, the density is obtained by sintering body is a
kind of polycrystalline material, the microstructure consists of crystal,
vitreous, and porosity. Sintering process directly affect the microstructure of
grain size, pore size and shape and distribution of grain boundary, which affect
the performance of the material. In diamond tool industry, the sintering process of the cutting tools commonly
used in sintered diamond drill bits, sintered diamond saw blade and sintered
diamond abrasive.
Macro definition: at high temperatures (not higher than
the melting point), green solid mutual bonding, grain growth, the gap (porosity)
and grain boundary, less through material, its total volume shrinkage, density
increased, finally has become something of a microstructure of dense
polycrystalline sintered body, this phenomenon is called sintering.
Microscopic
definition: between the molecules of a solid (or atoms) to attract each other,
by heating the particle gain enough energy to migrate, make the powder body
produces particles cohere, strength and densification and recrystallization
process called sintering.
